What a beautiful Saturday we had, the sky was blue, a soft wind was blowing , and the temperature was 60. I went to the farm store and bought seed potatoes, Youkon Gold and Red Pontiacs, red onion sets and one pot of pansies. I sat in the sun and cut the seed potatoes. I remembered my Dad and Grandpa sitting on the backporch cutting up seed potatoes from large gunnie sacks. I called Dad to ask how many pounds they used to cut up and he said at least 100 pounds. I remember finally being allowed to help. We had a very large garden with at least a third of it in potatoes. Dad used the walk behind, one bottom plow pulled by a team of horses to do the final harvest in the fall. I remember riding on the back of one of the horses as Dad drove them back to the barn. It was a beautiful day.

  1. Don't pansies add an amazing splash of color in spring? That's a great use of the concrete blocks.
